OCEAN FISHING

Marlow's on the Kenai is centrally located between Homer, Seward, and Ninilchik — three of Alaska's top ocean charter ports — giving guests easy access to world-class halibut, lingcod, rockfish, and salmon fishing on the open water.

Alaska's ocean waters are home to some of the finest saltwater fishing on the planet, and Marlow's on the Kenai is perfectly positioned to take advantage of it all. Our lodge sits centrally located between Homer and Seward — two of Alaska's most iconic coastal towns — giving you easy access to a wide range of ocean charter options depending on what you're after.

NINILCHIK — HALIBUT & COD

Most of our guests head to Ninilchik for their ocean day — it's the closest halibut fishing charter port to Marlow's and one of the most productive in the state. These are beach launch charters that depart right from the shore and head out into Cook Inlet, where you'll target Pacific halibut and Pacific cod. These trips are straightforward, action-packed, and almost always result in a full cooler.

Halibut are bottom-dwellers that put up a serious fight — especially the bigger ones, which can exceed 100 pounds. Pacific cod are plentiful and make for some of the best eating you'll find anywhere. A day on Cook Inlet is a perfect complement to your river fishing and a great way to diversify your catch.

HOMER — THE HALIBUT FISHING CAPITAL

Homer sits at the end of the Sterling Highway on the shores of Kachemak Bay and is known as the "Halibut Fishing Capital of the World." It's a charming coastal town with a vibrant arts scene, excellent restaurants, and the famous Homer Spit — a narrow strip of land that juts nearly five miles out into the bay.

Charter options out of Homer include halibut fishing as well as multispecies trips targeting lingcod, rockfish, and king salmon in addition to halibut. If you're looking for variety on the water, Homer is a great option. The bay itself is stunning — surrounded by glaciers, volcanic peaks, and abundant marine wildlife including sea otters, puffins, whales, and eagles.

SEWARD — MULTISPECIES & WILDLIFE

Seward is located on the eastern side of the Kenai Peninsula at the head of Resurrection Bay and serves as the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park. It's a smaller, quieter town with a deep connection to the ocean and a rich maritime history.

Charters out of Seward are known for multispecies fishing — halibut, lingcod, rockfish, and silver salmon are all on the menu depending on the time of year. Many trips double as wildlife-viewing excursions, passing by tidewater glaciers, sea lion haul-outs, and whale feeding grounds. If you want to combine world-class fishing with jaw-dropping scenery, Seward is hard to beat.

BACK AT THE LODGE

All fish from your ocean charter are filleted for you to bring back to the lodge. From there, you have two options: you can drop your fish off to have it professionally processed, vacuum-sealed, and boxed for shipping — or you can use our professional-grade vacuum sealer at the lodge and bag it yourself. Each cabin comes with its own chest freezer, so your catch stays frozen and ready to go for the duration of your stay.

Whether you choose Ninilchik for a quick halibut run, Homer for a full multispecies adventure, or Seward for the ultimate scenery-and-fishing combo, your ocean day will be one of the highlights of your trip.
